When Facebook launched in 2006, businesses could be forgiven for thinking the platform wasn\u2019t for them. But it has revolutionised not just the social media landscape, but the world of digital marketing in the past 10 years, proving that thinking outside the box to reach your audience and how you can use platforms that might not be \u2018made for you\u2019 are vital if you want to get ahead of your competition.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the platform\u2019s teenage user base has dropped\r\naround 40% in the past year, it still has the highest number of monthly active users\r\nof any social platform, with an estimated 2 billion people logging in each\r\nmonth.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your audience is over 20, they\u2019re almost definitely\r\nusing Facebook, and if they\u2019re under 18 there\u2019s a good chance their mums or\r\nother family members are instead. This means that you can reach almost anyone\r\nvia Facebook advertising. But advertising on Facebook comes in many forms.\r\nWe\u2019re here to talk you through them.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How do I use Facebook to promote my\r\nbusiness?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ads<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, there is paid advertising. Ads run through Facebook\r\nBusiness Manager are relatively low cost compared with other social platforms,\r\nand the reach is significantly higher. You can select who will see your ad\r\nbased on their age, gender, location, and interests to ensure that only those\r\nwho are interested in you will see you. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the last two years, 2 million people started\r\nadvertising on Facebook. This just goes to show that it\u2019s never too late to join\r\nthe party. Facebook has honed its platform to a point where all industries can\r\nbenefit from it &#8211; surprisingly, it\u2019s legal services that boast the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wordstream.com\/blog\/ws\/2017\/02\/28\/facebook-advertising-benchmarks\">highest Facebook ad click through rate<\/a> (CTR).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Boosted posts<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re not ready to launch a full ad campaign,\r\nFacebook\u2019s option to boost posts is cheap, easy, and effective. You select one\r\nexisting post that you\u2019ve already shared, and \u2018boost\u2019 it to people within your\r\nchosen demographic. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boosted posts runs over a set time to your maximum set\r\nbudget, so you can spend as little or as much as you can afford. It\u2019s a great\r\nway to increase visibility and awareness of your brand, and attract new\r\nfollowers to your company page.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is simpler not only because you don\u2019t have to\r\nwrite any new content (you just recycle existing posts) but also because you\r\ndon\u2019t need to use the Business Manager to do so. What\u2019s more, you can\r\ntactically chose the post that is already performing best with your existing\r\naudience using Facebook\u2019s analytics tool Insights \u2013 if it\u2019s going down well\r\nwith people who like your brand, you can take that a good sign that it will\r\nattract new audiences.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tactical Content<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course if you have no budget, Facebook is free to\r\nuse for brands in the same way as it is for individuals. You\u2019ll need to set up\r\na \u2018Page\u2019 or \u2018Group\u2019 (or both) rather than a profile, as Facebook seeks out\r\nthose using the wrong options and will shut you down. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It can take time to grow your following, so make sure\r\nyou\u2019re sharing your Page or Group on your website, in your newsletters, and to\r\nall your existing contacts. You can even offer discounts or freebies for those\r\nwho follow you. It\u2019s a chicken and egg situation: the more you post, the more\r\nyour following will grow. So though you may not want to start posting without\r\nfollowers, they will naturally start to arrive once your page is active and\r\npopulated.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Posting on Facebook should be strategic, and based on\r\nresearch into your specific audience. For example, if you are selling a\r\nproduct, your followers don\u2019t want to feel like they are having that product\r\npushed at the all the time \u2013 remember, it\u2019s just one click to unfollow you, so\r\ndon\u2019t annoy your audience. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mix your salesy posts with industry insights that\r\nplace you as an expert in your field, or some behind the scenes shots that give\r\na feel of your brand\u2019s personality. You can also use polls to spark\r\nconversations and carry out free customer research, and Stories for quick\r\nupdates when you\u2019re out and about.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a lot to take in \u2013 there are many ways to use Facebook to your advantage, and ultimately it comes down to you, your company, and your industry, but one thing\u2019s for sure: your audience is already there.
